90-Day CFE Exam Challenge Success Story: Maureen Molekwa

Maureen Molekwa works as a risk mitigation officer at a financial institution in South Africa. She participated in our last 90-Day CFE Exam Challenge and was one of our most active participants in the group, checking in every week, sharing study tips and helping to cheer on fellow challenge participants. After successfully completing the challenge and earning her CFE credential, Maureen also joined the ACFE Mentoring Program to continue on her professional development journey.

Maureen has a few study tips to share if you’re considering joining the 90-Day CFE Exam Challenge.

Why was it important for you to gain the CFE credential?
I needed to upskill myself and gain competitive advantage in the market. 

What did your study method look like?
I worked on a study plan as follows:

• Before attempting to do the practice exams, I conducted several attempts on the review session questions until the information was understood.

• I revisited the review session questions to improve my level of understanding on any section that was not achieved competently during the practice exams.

• Before sitting for final exams, I repeated the process until I was confident that my goal to achieve a competent level was reached.  

How did you mentally prepare before starting the exam?
The entire program was hectic to accomplish, very challenging. However, I worked around the clock trying to achieve the set goals.

What did it feel like when you got the email saying you’d passed? How did you celebrate?
I was overwhelmed, speechless at the same time. It was like a “wow” moment for me that my dream had come true.

What advice do you have for challenge participants who are preparing for the CFE Exam?
