ACFE Kicks Off International Fraud Awareness Week

PRESIDENT'S BLOG

While sliding down the Great Wall of China (yes, I actually did that), visiting Tiananmen Square and seeing the tallest TV tower in the world are definite bucket list contenders, nothing on my recent trip to Asia compares to unforgettable memories I shared with ACFE chapter members in Singapore, Indonesia, Japan and China.

At each stop along my two-week journey, I was met with a warm reception and a welcoming spirit that puts the U.S.’s Southern hospitality to shame. It is this example of generosity and a true intent to share not just a culture, but provoking ideas and thoughts, that reminds me why we started International Fraud Awareness Week so many years ago.

Today, we kick off a weeklong campaign to promote fraud awareness by not just sharing tools and resources with those we know, but sharing and engaging with those we don’t. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard our members speak of the value of networking to not only meet other anti-fraud professionals, but to gain knowledge and tips from those fighting the same daily fight. As one of our members, Grace Corbett, CFE, BSA, so nicely summed up in a recent profile, “Without networking, you can add many hours to your investigation.”

This week, I encourage you to take advantage of and share the resources, tools and information vital to fraud-fighters by participating in International Fraud Awareness Week via our website, social media, traditional media, white papers, events and seminars. I hope you enjoy the resources we plan to make available and, as always, we are here to answer any questions.
