CFE Shares Transition from Committee Volunteer to ACFE Regent

The ACFE prides itself on offering its members the highest quality educational seminars and courses available, as well as the latest fraud literature and commentary. There is another valuable opportunity that the ACFE is proud to offer its members: the chance to grow professional networks and honor the contributions of CFEs all over the world by serving on the ACFE volunteer committees. Thanks to volunteers like Martha R. McVeigh, CFE, ACFE Regent, committees have become vital to the success of the ACFE.

GUEST BLOGGER

Martha R. McVeigh, CFE, ACFE Regent

Through my service as president of the Rhode Island ACFE Chapter, I was approached by ACFE staff to serve on one of the Membership Awards Committees. From 2005-2009, I participated in the selection of recipients for the annual ACFE Membership Awards categories and chaired the committee for three years. Working with other CFEs from around the country, we reviewed nominations and selected either a person or a chapter to receive one of the annual awards. Reading these nominations was an eye-opening experience and showed me the remarkable achievements and selfless acts of my fellows CFEs. On more than one occasion, we found it difficult to select just one recipient from a group of very qualified individuals.

"Chairing the committee for three years served me well as I transitioned from leading my chapter to seeking a position on the Board of Regents."

My most memorable experiences were making the professional contacts and friendships with other committee members. Chairing the committee for three years served me well as I transitioned from leading my chapter to seeking a position on the Board of Regents. By working together with committee members from across the country, and finding common ground in selecting award recipients, I was able to seek out those same individuals with whom I had served to ask for their consideration in my quest to be a regent.

I encourage you to volunteer! Serving on one of these committees will bring you in contact with exceptional individuals and introduce you to other CFEs. You have an opportunity to honor your colleagues or chapter.

Applications are now being accepted until the middle of December to volunteer on the following committees: Chapter Awards, Higher Education, Membership Awards, Professional Development and Scholarship. For more details, go here.
