Spotlight on ACFE Chapters During Fraud Week

International Fraud Awareness Week (Fraud Week) was established by the ACFE in 2000 as a dedicated time for organizations and individuals to spread fraud awareness. Since its inception nearly two decades ago, hundreds of organizations around the world have taken that root idea and made it their own.

ACFE local chapters around the world have really done a lot to spread fraud awareness during Fraud Week. The ACFE has nearly 200 chapters that are comprised of anti-fraud professionals with a range of backgrounds, and for Fraud Week 2019, many of those chapters are hosting a variety of creative learning activities, widespread knowledge campaigns and more to spread anti-fraud education in their communities.

Here’s what some of the ACFE Chapters are doing for Fraud Week 2019, November 17-23, 2019:

  • ACFE Serbia Chapter, along with the U.S. Department of Justice, held a conference this past Thursday in Belgrade. They also had two of the most prominent whistleblowers in Serbia.

  • The ACFE U.K. Chapter and Belgium Chapter are both holding their annual conferences. The U.K. Chapter has the Commander Operations Economic Crime for the City of London Police Karen Baxter speaking, along with interesting sessions, like looking at fraud and doping in the Sochi Olympics. The Belgium Chapter will have a psychological analysis of Elizabeth Holmes, plus a look at food fraud and the VW Dieselgate.

  • The ACFE Switzerland Chapter is holding a conference on ethics and compliance and has Maximilen Roche, a compliance manager for the World Economic Forum, speaking.

  • The ACFE Indonesia Chapter is hosting a discussion on raising awareness of fraud among millennials in the workplace.

  • The Central Ohio Chapter led a large campaign called “The Cost of Fraud.” They have multiple billboards posted in the greater Columbus, Ohio, area and have ads to spread the message that little white lies lead to big consequences. They also secured an official Fraud Week proclamation from Ohio Governor Mike DeWine.

  • The Dallas Chapter has secured more than 20 proclamations from local politicians.

  • Other chapters like the South Africa Chapter, Greece Chapter, El Paso Chapter and Italy Chapter are holding conferences or live events, as well.

We want to give a special thanks to all ACFE chapters — you really go above and beyond by using Fraud Week to spread fraud awareness and education. If you haven’t yet, be sure to sign up to support International Fraud Awareness Week.
